Cookoff Details

The 2017 Wolf Creek WildBlue BBQ competition is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and is an American Royal qualifying event. The event will pay out $9,000 in cash prizes.

Check-in for the competition begins Friday, July 14 at Kelley Park in Burlington. Team packets will be distributed at check-in. You can also use the links above to download contest rules and agendas.

Friday, July 14

11:00 a.m.     Cook sites open for contestants. (Call if you need earlier accommodations.)

11:00 a.m.     Meat can be inspected any time after this time.

5:30 p.m.       COOKS MEETING

The cooks meeting will be held in Kelley Hall, which is the rock building located in the middle of the park. At this time we will go over the rules for all categories, answer any questions, hand out containers for Saturday’s contest and listen to the KCBS Cook’s CD.

7:30 p.m.       Judges Meeting

8:00 p.m.       Judging:  APPETIZER entries and PIT THEME

9:00 p.m.       Judging:  DESSERT entries

There will be a team of judges coming to your cook site to do the judging. Entries must be cooked on site. NO STORE BOUGHT DESSERTS. For the APPETIZERS and the DESSERT contests, you will need to provide your own containers and serving utensils for the Judges (plates, bowls, forks, spoons, etc.).

Winners are announced at Saturday’s awards meeting.

8:30 a.m.       Kelley Hall closes to prepare for Judging

As a KCBS-sanctioned event, all KCBS rules apply. Turn-in will be at the south door of Kelley Hall. All teams are invited and encouraged to display their talents with samples of their cooking for the public to taste.
